Mara: The Seal Wife

A magic realism tale from the award winning filmmaker Uisdean Murray.

After giving birth to their child on a beach during the dead of night Sine runs
into the darkness leaving her husband Magnus in a state of anguish.
Journeying into the past we discover the reasons behind Sine’s behaviour and
witness the harrowing events that brought her into the realm of the selkie.

The scene was cut when it was decided we should aim for a running length of under 40 minutes which is the usual maximum running length of short films at festivals. It also keeps the film focused more on the core story which is the relationship of Magnus & Sine. We hope to explore the world of Mara more in the future. www.mara.film
